1930 Model J Duesenberg LWB emblem

Many consider the Duesenberg Model J to be
the epitome of the classic American Luxury
car. It was big, it was grand and it was
powerful. Master salesman E.L. Cord added
Duesenberg to his growing empire in 1926.
He promptly commissioned designer Fred Duesenberg to build
a "supercar."

The Duesenberg Model J debuted at the New York Automobile
Salon of 1928. The J was built on a conventional leaf-sprung
ladder frame powered by a 420 cubin inch, double-overhead
camshaft straight-eight producing 265 horsepower. A chassis alone
cost $8,500 before it was clothed by the finest
coach builders of the day

One of only two long-wheelbase Transformable Cabriolets built
by Hibbard & Darrin, thi car (engine #J-319, serial #2329)
was first displayed at the Paris Salon in October 1929. The
car can be used as a closed car, as a town car with open
driver's compartment, or as a fully open touring car. The
opulent rear passenger compartment is equipped with jump
seats, a cigarette lighter and radio.

Originally owned by the Marquis Luis Martinez de Rivas of
Paris and Madrid, the Duesenberg displayed here was restored
to concours condition by Ray Bowerxsox in the
1980s. Since then, it has traveled only 20 miles. Like all
Model J Duesenbergs, it is beautifully designed and built,
powerful and luxurious - exactly what the nobility, film stars,
and magnates of the late 1920s and early 1930s demanded.
